Cranes used in the construction industry are mostly temporary structures that are installed on vehicles built for specific purposes carrying tower cranes, or fixed to the ground.

Cranes can be controlled by various methods such as radio control, infrared controls or default control stations using push button pendants or by operators sitting in the vehicle cabin.

Various types of cranes commonly used are railroad cranes, mobile cranes, telescopic cranes, towers cranes, rough terrain cranes, crawler cranes, floating cranes, gantry cranes and aerial cranes.

Cranes installed on a railroad car or on a flatcar are known as railroad cranes. The mobile crane is the most basic and general type of crane, which in accordance with its name, can be carried easily anywhere. Tower cranes are fixed to the ground.

Crane design is based on two main considerations. The first is to raise the specified mass, the second is its stability, and it should not be excessive when carrying out lifting operations.
